Women Writers of Kentucky is the office at the University of Kentucky charged with providing programming that raises the accessibility of the literary arts in the Commonwealth, especially that of women’s letters. Our foremost offering is the Kentucky Women Writers Conference, the longest running event of its kind in the nation.
Lexington, Kentucky. Home to horse races, bourbon, and the women’s writers conference. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t even know how they heard about me. I wondered…is this a trick?
My anxieties quickly dissipated when I met Kremena Todorova, my ultra fabulous driver/conference guide/new best friend. I was also blow away with the southern hospitality (great hotel), amazing talent at the conference like Marcy Oginga and Samantha Thornhill, and literary blown away by the delicious wind storms that ratted my hair like a spinster hag.
My highlight was performing at a local library in the predominately mexican neighborhood (who knew!). There I met college students going to their first author reading, six-year olds who loved quinceaneras,
