BORDER TOWN GUIDE: Teachers, librarian, parents, grandmothers, book club enthusiasts, and anyone else who’s interested in using this series with youth…this is for you.
The Border Town Guide is now available via PDF at this link/website:
1) Book Reading: 20-minute dramatic reading from either Estrella’s Quinceañera or Sofi Mendoza’s Guide to Getting Lost in Mexico. Presentations last one hour and include a 20-minute Q&A.
2) Workshops: Author Talk: One-hour presentation about my journey as an author. I provide tips on what I’ve learned about the publishing industry, writing, and promoting books. The presentation is intended for a small class, limit 30 students.
Narrative Voice: This is an hour and a half to two-hour workshop that will help participants tap their creative flow and have fun writing narrative stories.
WRITERS AND WANNABE WRITERS:
A one-hour presentation to writers and would-be-writers about my journey as a writer. I admit every published author has a “How to” story–I’m no different. Although I cannot guarantee a contact for every participant, I can provide perspective, inspiration, and lots of laughter. Witness my trials, tribulations, and bad comedic routines as I share/entertain audiences of the journey of a would-be-writer.
“First Kiss” is a one-hour introduction and roller coaster ride into the world of young adult fiction. Learn how to tap into your odd, awkward, inner teenager. Practice harnessing that voice. This is a fun workshop for adults interested in writing for teens.
TEACHER, LIBRARIANS, YOUTH WORKERS:
I am available to speak to audiences ranging from 5 -500 on topics ranging from Latino youth, teen literacy, connecting to communities of color. Please email me for more details.
